DIEGO GARCIA 9
DEC 91
Well here it is! The
ultimate cheater for those correspondence crazed Ammo folks. It is not a to
well kept secret that most of us are very bad at writing to the ones that mean a
lot to us. However, we do think about it a lot. So, in an effort to help us
reach out and touch you we are putting together this little bit of news to you
from us. Enjoy it and do write back to who ever sent this to you.
MGT
I will introduce the stars of Det 13 AD(SAC), AMMO.
Michael G. Thurman (TSgt) is happily married to Julie, and has two children. Son Thomas (19) married and living in Sacramento, CA. Daughter Michelle (15) living in Aberdeen WA. with Julie. Mike left Loring AFB Maine in Sep and arrived on DG in Oct. He likes it here. (Well, they say he is a little to close to the edge of reality.)
Samuel S. Tatro (TSgt) was born and raised in northern California (Red Bluff area). He and Charlotte have been married almost 11 years and have four children. Lisa (8), Mary (6), Sara (4), and Joey (20 months). Sam left the Phoenix area (Luke AFB) in March 91, where the rest of the family is anxiously awaiting his return. He and his family will be moving to Columbus, Mississippi in June.
Larry W. Hamilton (SSgt) grew up in the Ozarks and is proud of it. He and Karen (an AFB Brat) got married on 14 Feb 79. They also, have four children. Elizabeth (12), Heather (10), Amanda (7), and David (5). Larry arrived here in April 91 from Minot AFB. He likes Minot! (Now who's living on the edge of reality?) He will be returning to Moody AFB in April 92.
Johnny D. Blanton (Sgt) arrived here in April 91 from Moody AFB. He will be returning to Moody AFB in April 92.
Eddie W. Bailey (MSgt)
was raised on the gulf coast of Texas. He is married to wife Judy and has three
children. Elena (15), Jerry (12), and Andrew (5). Ed arrived on DG. from MacDill, AFB Florida on 16 Sep 91, and as
yet has no clue as to which base he will be returning to in Sep 92.
Gone Fishing
The boys
left for the boat at 0645, 7 Dec to do some damage to the large fish population
near DG. Armed with nothing more then a few lures and some Reuses peanut butter
cups, Snikers, soda, and beer.
Johnny and
Larry set out the troll lines, Mike manned
the VCR camera, and Sam broke out some refreshments.
Sam enjoying his task the most. There were no fish falling for that old
rubber and lead food trick so, the skipper
had them pull in the lines and left to an
area where the fish were dumber! Again Johnny and Larry set out the
lines, Mike manned the camera, and Sam had a good time.
It wasn't long until Johnny was in the chair reeling in a huge Wahoo. We got it on film folks. Believe it or not this thing weighed 150 to 200 Ibs. I took fishermen rights and stretched the weight by a small percentage (1000%).
Not to be
out done Larry caught a Barracuda. I would say what size it was, but no need to
embarrass a great fisherman. It to is on video for all to see.
Well, 1130 and the trip was
over, the skipper gave the order to pull in the lines and as they were, guess what?
Ya, Mike
got lucky. He caught a Barracuda too. Unlike
Larry’s this thing was awesome. On video it may appear about the same size as Larry’s, but DON'T let
that fool you. The only thing I can guess is, because this was the first fish Sam filmed that day, it must have
seemed a lot smaller to him and that
carried over to the video.
Alas, Sam didn't get one, but a good time was had by all.

How’s Meow
You may are may not know about
our pet here on DG. She is a wild domestic cat that the shop spoiled into a shy
acceptance of us. We call her Meow. Whenever we drive up she starts meowing for
food or petting. With out food however, you may not get to touch her. That just depends on her mood.
Meow has had a rough life. Larry said she was a very skinny and
unhealthy cat when he arrived here. She had her tail pinched by a crab, so it
has an acute curve in it. Some how a stick got in her eye so she has one good eye. All in all though she is in
good condition now. Except for being pregnant. Maybe next issue we will have
news of her litter.
Gone Fishing II___
Now why we are calling this Gone
Fishing II is because I am the main fisherman is this story and it is short. Now where should I start?
On the day after Thanks Giving
we went out bottom fishing in a LCM. Most of the Det. was there and we had very
little luck. As a matter of fact we used more fish as bait then we caught.
Larry caught the most fish (Three WEE little ones). We were using only the best
of equipment and applying superior fishing
tactics. However one of the crewmembers was bored and threw over a line with a
hook, sinker, and a small chunk of bait. No pole, no reel, but well over a
dozen fish. Well he can forget the tip, I
tell you!
This would have been a reel bust
if I had not saved the day. That's me. The shark man. Yep, I got a nice sized
shark and am very pleased.
Well now you know why this story got second billing.

Christmas is here
Just to let
you know. We are showing a little Christmas spirit here. There were a lot of
Christmas decorations left over from the Desert Storm days. Some of the Det.
personnel got together and decorated the break room, and put up a tree as well.
The base is having a best-decorated window and door contest. Some of the Navy rooms look nice. My room on the other hand looks fairly
bare. Well, not the posters! Actually I have not put up any decorations in
my room. One reason is on the 16th the Navy is taking out all our furniture, and on the 17th we are getting all new furniture that the Air
Force bought. That is a nice Christmas gift
in its own way.
And on that note, have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.
